Capt. Arthur Galvin, 33 of Navarre. Listed as MIA when the AC-130 Specrte Gunship he was flying in was shot down on January 31. The Gunship was believed to be involved in Special Forces operations.
On March 6, the gunship was found off the coast of Kuwait and all aboard will be listed as Killed in Action when their remains are identified. Galvan in remembered at: Row 10 Block 2 on The Gulf War Veterans Memorial.
CAPTAIN ARTHUR GALVAN served as the fire control officer on board “Spirit 03”.<br />
Arthur was born to Ramon and Doris Galvan on November 8th, 1957. He grew up in California, where he was active in his high school’s student government and varsity sports. After two years at Biola College, he joined the United States Air Force where he served as an airman for the combat control team at Hurlburt Field, Florida.
At the age of twenty-two, he was accepted into the ROTC program at Troy State University, where he served as corps commander. Upon graduation, he received his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and the honors of distinguished graduate with a commissioned as second lieutenant.<br />
From there, Art and his family relocated to Sacramento, California, for Navigator training. After one year at Mather A.F.B., he received his wings! At Davis Monthan A.F.B. in Tucson, Arizona, Art served as a navigator aboard the EC-130H. While in Tucson, he received a private pilot’s license and was promoted to rank of captain. After three years as Davis Monthan A.F.B. he was stationed at Hurlburt Field, Florida serving as Fire Control officer on the AC-130 gunship. While at Hurlburt, Art received his masters in International relations and completed Squadron Officers School. In 1989, he participated in Operation Just Cause, and then in 1991, he bravely took part in Operation Desert Storm.
Art’s outstanding leadership qualities were evidenced in his successes and dedication as a military officer, husband, father, and friend.
