Doug graduated from the Combat Control School in Class 89-1 and was assigned to the 23rd Special Tactics Squadron at Hurlburt AFB, FL until about 1991. After a break in service, he joined Air Force Pararescue. The actual cause of death is being investigated by the Air Force. He drowned after performing a rescue mission while departing a tanker vessel five to ten miles southwest of Bermuda. Age 35

On Dec. 7, 2001, Staff Sgt. Douglas L. Eccleston, pararescueman, 920th Rescue Wing, died while performing his duties rescuing a sailor off the coast of Bermuda. Due to Eccleston’s heroic actions, the sailor’s life was saved.<br />
