On Monday, a Croman helicopter hauled away the wreckage of a small plane left dashed upon a wooden hillside since Thursday, when emergency crews responded to reports of the crash near Brookings Airport.
According to Curry County Sheriff John Ward, two men were killed in the crash: 71-year-old pilot James Penticoff of Crescent City and 62-year-old passenger Charles Kresa of Smith River. Ward said that next of kin had been notified for both men.
Records indicate that Penticoff was the aircraft's registered owner.
Croman Aircraft loaded the wrecked plane into a trailer, where it will be taken for examination by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
"The cause of the crash is still unknown and according to the NTSB, it may take nine months to a year to determine the cause of the crash," Sheriff Ward said.
