2026-08-27
We pause to honor the life, service, and legacy of Master Sergeant (Ret.) Jerry L. Broadway, who passed away peacefully at the age of 85, surrounded by the love of his family.
Jerry’s life was defined by an extraordinary devotion to country and service. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he first served in the U.S. Army as a Combat Medic with the iconic 101st Airborne Division, earning a nomination for the Silver Star for his valor under fire treating wounded soldiers on the battlefield.
In the 1970s, his path led him into the elite ranks of Air Force Combat Control, where he served with distinction at Hurlburt Field and Dyess Air Force Base, bringing his calm under pressure and tactical expertise to the Special Tactics community.
He later returned to the Medical Corps in the 1980s, completing a distinguished military career before retiring to Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and remaining an active member of the Air Commando Association.
Beyond his time in uniform, Jerry was a man who cherished life’s simple pleasures—hunting, fishing, cooking for loved ones, and serving his community through the Shriners and Masons.
Above all, he was a devoted husband of 56 years to his wife, Yvonne, a loving father to his sons, Shane and Eric, and a proud grandfather and great-grandfather.
We extend our deepest condolences to the Broadway family, his friends, and all who had the privilege of serving alongside him. MSgt Broadway’s lifetime of service across two branches, in the heat of combat and in the care of his fellow service members, leaves an indelible mark on our heritage.
The life of MSgt Jerry Broadway reflects the multi-faceted spirit of dedication, service, and quiet strength that unites the special operations community. Whether tending to the wounded on the battlefield as a medic or operating as a Combat Controller integrating air assets, operators like Jerry lay the groundwork for the traditions of excellence carried forward today. His service and memory remain an enduring part of our community's history.
