John Wayne Chalk died of cancer at his home in Syracuse, Feb. 3, 2008. He was born July 7, 1957 in St. Louis, Mo., to Edward Clarence and Martha Marklin Chalk. John served in the Air Force Special Forces from 1977 to 1981.

For the last 24 years he has worked in the United Kingdom, Cyprus, Saudi Arabia, Korea, Japan, Italy, France, Omar, UAE, California and Salt Lake City for L-3 Communications. He served as a field engineer representative on four different continents. He has received countless technical and performance awards from his company, the U.S. Military and the U.K. Military. John was well-known and widely respected by his peers as an outstanding engineer and a great friend.

The time he treasured most was being on his boat with his children at Flaming Gorge.

He was preceded in death by father, Edward C. Chalk. 
He is survived by wife, Frixie; daughter, Miranda Ray of SLC; son, Richard Chalk of Springville; mother, Martha Marklin Chalk; brother, Edward M. (Karen) Chalk of Vernal; sisters, Anne (Ron) Kucera of Bellingham, Wa.; Mary Lou (Wayne) German of Newberg, Ore.; Susan (Lynn M) Silcox of Vernal, and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral mass was held at St. James Catholic Church, Feb. 12, with interment at Dry Fork Cemetery with military honors from the American Legion Post 11 and 124. A Rosary vigil was Feb. 11, at St. James.
