Mark Gunnar Jacobson, 53, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 at his home after his lengthy battle with Colon Cancer. He never wavered in his fight to life. The doctor’s prognosis was three months. Mark fought hard for four years, thanks to his strength, determination, and love for his family, friends, and his never ending sense of humor.

Mark joined the USAF in 1986 and graduated Combat Control School in 1987. His first duty station was McChord AFB, WA. where he met his bride to be Kathy and hand two sons, Jake and Dane. Mark and Kathy continued their lifes journey with follow on assignments to Elmendorf AFB, AK, back to McChord AFB, WA, and Yuma Proving Ground (YPG), AZ. Upon retirement from active duty Mark took a job at the Air Traffic Control Tower on YPG.

Mark was survived by his wife of 30 years Kathy, Children Jake (Tatjana) Jacobson and Dane (Kyla) Jacobson, Parents Antonia (Pat) DiRenzo, Gunnar (Rita) Jacobson, Sunny Jacobson, Brothers and Sisters Erik (Kelly) Jacobson, Brian Jacobson, Steve (Keri) Jacobson, Michael (Lorraine) DiRenzo, Tracey Fitzgerald, Mona (Matt) Baughman, Rick (Kat) Akset, Brian (Courtney) Schrader, and all of his Combat Control and Military Freefall brothers.

The family would like to thank all of his CCT and MFFS brothers, Dr. Jeanne Elnadry, Dr. Gregory Yang, Dr. Michael Gordon, and RN Amy Turner from Hospice of Yuma.

A memorial service was held a the YPG Chapel on August 18th, 2017. Mark then conducted his final Military Freefall Jump with his close friends, family, and brothers in arms at Philips Drop Zone .
