Scott Winnecker (CCS 1977), a former Combat Controller with the McChord Air Force Base team in the 1970s, passed away just shy of his 70th birthday after a battle with brain cancer.

Read the UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center article about him: <a href="https://health.ucdavis.edu/synthesis/issues/fall2013/grabbing.html" target="_blank">https://health.ucdavis.edu/synthesis/issues/fall2013/grabbing.html</a>

Scott began his journey as a young and determined Combat Controller at McChord, where he served with distinction during his enlistment. After leaving the military, he transitioned into air traffic control during a pivotal moment in U.S. history, stepping up when President Reagan dismissed thousands of air traffic controllers. Scott seized the opportunity, climbing the ranks quickly and building an impressive career. His reputation as a skilled and accomplished professional still resonates with those who knew his work.

In his later years, Scott faced a difficult fight with brain cancer and spent his final months in care. His story echoes the resilience and determination of so many Combat Controllers who served alongside him.

Scott Winnecker was a true trooper—dedicated, resilient, and accomplished. His passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew him, but his legacy as a Combat Controller and air traffic control leader will not be forgotten. He deserves to be honored at the memorial for his service, dedication, and lasting contributions.

DOB – 09 December 1954

Rest in peace, Scott.
