Tom was born in San Francisco, CA to Margaret and William McHale. He passed away, with his beloved family by his side, from a lengthy illness of heart and renal failure. Tom is survived by his loving spouse of 43 years, Janice McHale, son Scott McHale (Teri), daughter Nichole Vogler (Willy), daughter Lisa Ladner (Greg), daughter Kristina Kingdon, eleven grandchildren and his dear Aunt Marguerite Johnson, cousins Barbara Bondafini and Elton Johnson, along with his many nieces. He also leaves behind his four furry kitties he dearly loved and made him so happy as family and friends will tell you.

Tom enlisted in the Air Force after high school and became a Combat Control Team Operator, working behind the lines in the jungles of Vietnam. Tom received an Honorable Discharge and awarded a Bronze Star and a Bronze Star with “V” Device, for his heroic actions in Vietnam. He was proud to serve and stayed in touch with his team members. Tom was able to meet his CCT buddies in reunions in Las Vegas, NV, most recently as last April.

After his tour in Vietnam he joined the Sacramento Police Department, serving in the Patrol Division and CSI Division, he served on the SPOA Board of Directors and for Widows & Orphans Assoc., after 22 years he retired in Dillon Beach, CA. to enjoy life by the ocean.

During retirement he was a commercial fisherman for a period of time and worked in construction. Tom was full of stories and laughter. He had a huge passion for going out with family & friends boating, camping, hunting and fishing. He deeply loved his family & always wanted them close.

We will miss him dearly each day and will remember him always.

A Celebration of Life will be held on September 15, 2018, 1:00 pm at Tomales Town Hall, 27150 Maine Street, Tomales, CA.

It is with a heavy heart I inform all of the great guys in CCT that one of their own has succumbed to a long term illness originated from Agent Orange from his Viet Nam tour. He loved telling stories about his buds and has enjoyed the CCT Reunions as recent as April this year in Las Vegas !  Yeah tho I walk through the valley of death I shall fear no evil….for I am the evilest son of a bitch!!!  Oh my god – the songs he would sing about napalm… he was so special and greatly loved by all. We will miss he laughter and stories.

I am a retired police officer with the Sacramento Police Department. I worked with Tom McHale Who was one of the original combat controllers/ravens during the Vietnam war. Tom recently passed away in a VA home in San Francisco, and I do not know what if any plans the family has made to date regarding his services. I did feel however that it was important that your organization knew about his passing.<br />

I have a son who is currently active Duty with the 123 STS in Louisville Kentucky. He encouraged me to reach out to you at this location.
